Welcome to installment #34 in “The Whole Picture” in which I present the uncropped, higher resolution version of photos that have published. For prior editions click here. For higher resolution click on the photo before saving. As always, photos are best viewed on a big screen rather than a tiny phone screen.

Some of you may have found your way here through the link on I have had several people email me asking questions about buying prints or about finding all of my photos for a certain sport.

The photos I post here are a small fraction of the photos I actually have. If you would like to print any of the photos on Ashland Daily Photo, you are welcome to do so at no charge. Be sure to click on the photo to get to the higher resolution size which will print with more quality. If you want to use them on the web (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), you are welcome to do so if you link back to in the description of the photo. If you are using the photo in a newspaper or magazine, please credit “Al Case, Ashland Daily Photo”.

If you would like me to search through all of my photos and send you photos of the particular athlete you are looking for I charge a reasonable fee for the time it takes me to find all of those photos and to process them for you. I do not normally sell prints. I email you the high quality electronic files in .jpg format, and you can do the printing and framing yourself through a local or online service. My email is on this page or you can comment (leave a reply) to a recent blog entry to communicate.

To find all of my photos for a particular sport, use the following links. Click on “Older Entries” near the bottom-left of each page to view more photos.

Raiders earn #3 seed for national tournament

Details here.

Massey gives the Raiders a 54% chance of winning their first game against #6 seed Northwestern (Iowa). If SOU makes it to the Sweet 16, they will likely face undefeated Southeastern Florida. Massey gives SOU just a 25% chance should that matchup occur. This is March Madness though. Anything can happen. Upsets will happen. To make the Final Four, the Raiders may have to get past last year’s national champion, and long-time nemesis, Marian, as Marian is in the same group of eight teams in the bracket as SOU.

The first game is March 9 at 8:15 a.m. PST.

SOU is going for back-to-back Cascade Conference tournament championships. A win gets them the championship and no worse than a #2 seed at the national tournament.

Hoping for tails

Autumn Durand moved into 3rd place among SOU’s all-time scoring leaders in last night’s win

@SOURaiders @ADurand25 @souwbb

Today, beginning at 1 at Ashland High School, the SOU women’s basketball team will play for their second consecutive Cascade Conference championship. Last year they won the conference outright. They must win today to become co-champions with Eastern Oregon University.

Should the Raiders and EOU finish with identical conference records (and Massey says there is a 96% chance they will), a coin flip will determine a couple things. Heads gets the “winner” an automatic seat at the national tournament. However, should they “lose” the coin flip, the result is even better. They will become the #1 seed in the conference tournament. Since SOU is already a near lock for the national tournament, they should be hoping to lose the coin flip. That will likely give them more home games in the conference tournament, which may lead to more victories (they haven’t lost at home in years), and possibly a higher seed at the national tournament.

New national rankings came out today, and SOU remained at #4. When all is said and done, there is no difference between #1 and #4 as four teams will receive #1 seeds in the national tournament.

Eastern Oregon University is coming to town this Saturday, and they moved up to #17. Massey has EOU at #13.

Player of the Week

@SOURaiders @ADurand25

I’ve said it before, and I’ll likely be saying it again, I’m guessing this won’t be the last time this season we see Autumn chosen as the Cascade Conference Player of the Week.

Autumn averaged 21.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, and shot 51 percent from the field in leading the Raiders to a perfect 3-0 week. She also shot 94.7 percent (18-19) from the free throw line.
