Clementine explained to the audience in Grants Pass that Zepparella never gets to celebrate Gretchen’s birthday, as it falls between Christmas and New Years when they aren’t playing any shows, so we had an early celebration at the Rogue Theatre.

Happy birthday, Adrian Conner!

This past Friday night I had the chance to see Zepparella for about the tenth time.

The show was my first chance to test out my new Nikon Z 50 in a concert setting. I had several reservations about going with a mirrorless camera. Those included a drop in quality for concert and sports shooting, short battery life, and the need for an adapter with non Z lenses. I didn’t buy the FTZ adapter, to not have to deal with the added weight, so that wasn’t a problem. After taking over 350 photos on a single charge the battery is still showing “full” so battery life doesn’t seem to be an issue. And even though I brought the wrong lens (I mistakenly grabbed the 50-250mm f/6.3 instead of the 50mm f/1.8), the pictures still came out OK. With a 1.8 lens I think concert photos will be really nice. At f/6.3 the ISO is quite a bit higher and the shutter speed is a bit slower than it will be when I use a faster lens in the future.

Nearly two years to the day of their last performance at the Ashland Armory, DSO is scheduled for a return on February 11. It’s a Tuesday night so you’ll want to take the 12th off from work. 😉

Save $5 by purchasing your tickets in advance at the normal locations (for instance Music Coop in Ashland, Magic Man in Medford, or Listen Hear Records in Grants Pass) or online here for a small fee.

Plastic Jesus @ Club 66

Plastic Jesus

It’s been more than three years since Club 66 went out of business. Today’s photo comes from more than four years ago. It must have been a very hot day in June of 2015 as nearly everyone in Plastic Jesus and Everymen went shirtless, and, although you don’t see it in this photo, they were usually covered in sweat.

Every time I drive past what was once Club 66 I think of those good times.
