Downtown Ashland before the dawn

brew bar the black sheep noah's river adventures

Continuing the series I began a couple weeks ago, here are some downtown businesses long before they opened for the day.

Another photo of The Black Sheep can be found here.

If you have a large screen, click on the image for a bigger view so you can see your options with Noah’s River Adventures. Do you want to go down the Rogue River, Klamath River, or Salmon River today?

Before the dawn on the edge of the Ashland Railroad District

oak street before the sunrise

A few days ago I took a friend to the Medford airport at 4:30 a.m. On my way home I took a bunch of pictures of Ashland just before the sun began to make its appearance. Today is the first of those images. I took it from Oak Street. This is the Ashland Railroad District. The building to the left is the A Street Marketplace which is 100 years old this year (built in 1910). For most of that time it was home to Oak Street Tank And Steel. In 2000 it was remodeled and turned into the current A Street Marketplace which has restaurants, a theater, and more.

Jet lag

starry photography

I always seem to get really bad jet lag. This trip home has been no exception. The jet lag seems to get worse before it gets better. It’s 4 in the morning on night 3 after returning, and I’ve been wide awake since 2 so I decided to take this pic from the back deck instead of lay in bed any longer. The photo didn’t come out very well. Things looked far more magical in person. With my natural eyes I could see the Milky Way, and the moon is a beautiful crescent. I guess I need a tripod, less moisture in the air, and/or a better camera to make this shot really work.

Can you see the Seven Sisters (Pleiads)?

Fireworks

A photograph from last year’s fireworks display… Not bad considering I didn’t have a tripod.

China

I’ve spent much of this month in China. For more on my adventures in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China click here.
