Eclipse day -2

Cape Foulweather Lighthouse

We are spending a couple of nights in Corvallis for Monday’s solar eclipse. Today we arrived, headed to the coast (Newport, Oregon), and arrived at the Yaquina Head Lighthouse just as the sun was going down.

On August 24, Lake Street Dive will be playing at the Britt Festival in Jacksonville. That will likely be my first Britt show of the year. Tickets are still available here.

I saw them last September when they opened for the Dave Matthews Band in Washington three nights in a row.

Mt. Shasta sunset from Mt. Ashland on Christmas

@mtashland @whattodoinsoore

We headed up to Mt. Ashland for a walk in the snow on Christmas. Cars were streaming down the mountain as we went up. We hit the parking lot at about 4 which was also when the ski area was closing. It was beautiful, but not as beautiful as it became an hour later when the sun set. Nearly everyone was gone by then. At just 18°, and dropping quickly, I don’t blame them, but they missed the best scene of the day.

Dusk at the ranch

Took a one-day trip out to our friends’ ranch this past Saturday. Always beautiful, always a good time.

Snowy sunset

Sunset looking away from Crater Lake

Thursday I headed to Crater Lake, and surrounding areas, with two goals. I failed to reach either goal.

My first goal was to snowshoe to Muir Creek Falls from the Claude Lewis Trailhead parking lot. Didn’t quite happen. More on that later.

My second goal was to capture a sunset, for the first time, at Crater Lake. Today’s photo is as close as I got. Those clouds on the right covered the lake and turned into thick fog as well just minutes after I took this photo. I had high hopes too, as Crater Lake looked like this less than an hour before sundown.

I took today’s photo as the Ashland High School football team was playing a team from the land of the rising sun. The Japanese flag features a sun of a similar color.

Today is the big travel day. To Daytona we go with a practice once we get there. Today’s photo is of the plane last weekend that took us to Chicago. I took this during our fuel stop in South Dakota.
