Cambodia – Part 1

Royal Palace grounds Cambodia

A week ago I left to Cambodia for a school trip. The plane ride was about seven hours long. When we got to the airport in Phnom Pehn we were greeted by our tour guide and a tour bus. As we drove to our hotel he told us a bit about Cambodia and his life. Our hotel was an apartment style area with three separate bedrooms. With just enough time to unpack our stuff we went to our first meal in the country. One of the coolest things about the restaurant were how many lizards there were all over the ceiling. I got a smoothie and some very delicious Khmer food.

The next day in the morning we went to the royal palace where the king is living now. Our guide told us that the spikes on top of the buildings were supposed to be dragons. The Khmer people religiously believe that there ancestors were dragons so they include that in there architecture. We went inside the crowning room where the king and king would be crowned. There was a lot of really cool artwork in there but we couldn’t take any photos of it. Scattered across the grounds there were also dance hall, places to keep elephants and various other places.

There was one French building that looked completely out of place. It was a gift from Napoleon the third and was previously a library. The silver pagoda was located nearby the royal palace. Its floors were made out of silver taken from coins from when they stopped using coin currency. There was also a golden, life sized Buddha covered with hundreds of diamonds.

Disneyland Paris

Way back when we were in Europe our family went to Disney Land Paris. It had really long lines, but it was a ton of fun. Its been a while since our trip but I’ll try to remember the best I can.

Here’s me with Smee from Peter Pan. The Peter Pan ride we went on was a cool little ride. It was one of those that was more cool than fast. You flew around Never Land on flying pirate ships (I wish I had one of those). The only particulars I remember of it was you flew through some pretty cool star effects up in the sky. They were kind of like the stars in the ride Space Mountain. I was really scared at first to go on that ride because when I went on it in California I got sick. Amazingly enough I was the only one who didn’t get sick this time. I guess I’m getting less afraid of roller coasters now.

Above is me with the evil king in Robin Hood. Since there are no Robin Hood rides there I’m going to talk about the haunted mansion type ride. In front of us in line there were some people dressed up in weird costumes, my mom got a picture with them. The ride itself was really cool, funny and pretty unscary. It was probably the best ride there. Speaking of scary things at Disney Land, we went to a hororific Mexican restraunt. The only drinks they had were hot chocolates which weren’t very comforting because I was already really hot. The worst part was the nachos. They were just a few doritos in a box.

Overall it was a fun amusement park but not as fun as Tivolli. I would suggest bringing your own lunch though because the food is not very good.

Ellie at the White House

Wednesday I woke up in Washington D.C.  We went to see the White House. We ended up not going to the front, because we had heavy backpacks and it was burning outside. I was so thirsty and hot and my shoulders ached from the backpacks that I thought I was going to faint! When my mom finally found a snack shack she bought Ryan and I one Dr. Pepper each. Ryan and I called it happiness in a cup! We went to a whole bunch of buildings and then went to the airport to set off for Denmark.

Swim / Movie Party

Last week I had a swim party at my house when my brother was gone at SOU Academy. This picture is of all the girls I invited. Hannah, Lilli, Harper, Allie, Ellie S., me, and Anna. We blew up water balloons and went swimming in my pool. After we watched a movie called “Life Size”, too. We had a lot of fun and then at five they all left.

Tomorrow I am going to Denmark!!!

3rd of July 2007 at Lake of the Woods

This was the day before the Fourth Of July. In the boat of two people is my friend, also named Ellie, and me. In the intertube is Ryan. Ellie and I were trying to go all the way to the buoys. We made it! Ryan was relaxing in the sun, and I think Conner, Ellie’s brother, was swiming out to him. The picture was taken by my dad on the beach. The beach was only a bit of a beach. It only had a little bit of sand and behind it there was a forest.

In this picture, in the back are Chris and Wendi, who are Conner and Ellie’s parents. Ellie is the girl next to me and Conner is the boy with black hair next to my brother, Ryan. The lady with brown hair next to me is my mom, Linda.

The deck we are sitting on is not ours. Ellie and I had to ask the people who owned it if we could sit on it. They called us the “cute little girls” when they anwsered the door! We wanted to sit on the deck because there was going to be fireworks over the lake soon.

This was one of the fire works we saw on the deck. Under the fire works on the water were police boats that had their lights blinking on and off.

This picture is of another of the many fireworks we saw from the deck. If you think these are great you should have seen the grand finale!
