Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival or Girls’ Day)

Today is the Hina Matsuri (雛祭り) in Japan. Our very kind neighbors invited us over to check out their display, pictured above, that they set up each year in late February for their daughter. We enjoyed seasonal treats for Girls’ Day with them. They invited us back for Children’s Day on May 5 to see their other display.

I was envious of their tatami floor. Even though our apartments were virtually identical, we didn’t have tatami. 🙁

With only 4 nights there is plenty to do in Tokyo without feeling like you need to get to Kyoto or Hiroshima or something. If you do make a day trip, I would recommend Kamakura or Nikko. What do you guys like to do and where are your interests? How old is your daughter?

Looks a lot like the display we have at my house for Hina Matsuri.

Hi! thanks for replying! my daughter is 10 and we’ve been to Disneyland Resort Paris already if that’s what you’ve got in mind. 😉
we are from Belgium. I love to see the real Tokyo/Japanese for that matter. Shopping would be nice, too, so I can compare the malls from here (well, Europe doesn’t really have nice malls), Dubai, Manila and Kuala Lumpur. And also where to eat authentic Japanese cuisine that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
