Varsity Theatre – Ashland, Oregon

varsity theatre night snow theater

Today’s photo is from the archives. I took this in February of 2011 with my LX3. The Varsity sports some of the last neon left in town. I think there was about twice as much neon a decade ago as there is now in Ashland. At some point I imagine it will all be gone.

Inocente in Ashland

Last night we watched the 2012 short documentary, “Inocente” by Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine. I met Inocente at the Ashland Independent Film Festival last month so seeing the film, finally, had extra meaning. Inocente won the 2013 Oscar for best short documentary.

This photo was taken at Illahe Gallery in Ashland’s railroad district.

2013 Ashland Independent Film Festival – Historic Ashland Armory

Today’s photo is a reverse angle, taken a few hours earlier, of what I posted a couple days ago. I took this before the showing of “Ritual” (a short documentary) and “SPARK: A Burning Man Story.”

Historic Ashland Armory all cleaned up and ready for another day of films

I was a volunteer photographer at this year’s AIFF. The project consumed more of my time than I was expecting, but one of the rewards was being able to see things that typical attendees of the festival miss. One of those things is what the Ashland Armory looks like at midnight, after the final showing of the day, after being cleaned up and prepared for the next day of events.

AIFF – Ashland Independent Film Festival

The last couple days have been pretty crazy photo wise. I probably have about 1,000 keepers from about ten different events (including not only the AIFF events but also Nic Temple’s piano recital, SOU softball doubleheader, some wild weather panoramas, and Father Doug at Club 66). Now I just need to sort through them all…
