…Conforto was a slugger for the Oregon State Beavers. Now he makes $8 million a year for the New York Mets.

Oldest continuous ballpark in the nation

Goss Stadium at Coleman Field

@OregonState @BeaverBaseball

Even older than Fenway Park (1912) and Wrigley Field (1914), baseball has been played at the site of Goss Stadium (which has seen many improvements over the years) since 1907. It only took me 110 years to see my first game there this past weekend. The game (against Washington State) was sold out so we had to procure tickets from a scalper outside the stadium (for about half of what tickets were going for on Stubhub but still more than double the face value).

The #1-ranked Beavers won, as usual. OSU will be hosting the Regionals next weekend. If all goes well, they will be hosting the Super Regionals the following weekend and heading to Omaha for the College World Series later in June.

OSU baseball – Michael Conforto

@mconforto8 Congratulations to Michael Conforto for his high draft pick today! A pick this high should net him about $3 million if he gives up his senior season at OSU.

I took today’s photo last season. Conforto had just broken a 0-0 tie against the Ducks with a home run. He had 31 such dingers during his three years with the Beavers. More impressive perhaps was his consistently high batting average and on base percentage. In over 175 games he maintained a .341 batting average and .463 on base percentage.

OSU’s Andy Peterson

@AJ_Peterson1 Regionals begin this weekend with the Beavers staying home to host UNLV, UC Irvine, and North Dakota State.

Today’s photo is from the 2013 season. Andy Peterson has since changed numbers to #1. He leads the Beavers in stolen bases this season with 9. He is also tied for second on the team with 41 runs scored.

Danny Hayes sends OSU to Omaha

Danny Hayes of the Oregon State University Beavers

Danny Hayes hit a two-run home run in the second inning last night to fuel the Beavers win over Kansas State. Although OSU lost the first game of the series, Andrew Moore got the win for Oregon State in game 2, and Hayes led the offense to a 4-3 win in game 3.

Smile for the TV camera darling

Between innings at the OSU vs. UofO game a couple weekends ago, the cameraman turned the TV camera from the field to the stands to capture this baby. The dad thought it would be a good idea to take the bottle from the baby and then bring the bottle to the camera’s direction. This was the result.

Max Gordon – Oregon State University Beavers Baseball

In the latter part of the last decade, Max Gordon was starring for the Ashland High School Baseball Team. Now he plays center field for Oregon State. He has made several, stunning diving catches this season. For instance, this past Sunday he made one of the most miraculous dives I have ever seen.

In a pitcher’s league (the Pac-12), Michael Conforto can hit. He leads the #4 ranked Beavers in pretty much every offensive category. He gets on base nearly half the time and is slugging over .520. He hit two homers in the weekend series with the Ducks. He is only a sophomore.
