…SOU mounted a stunning comeback to defeat the undefeated College of Idaho Coyotes.
On Halloween I had to give a test during the annual, Ashland Halloween parade. I think this was only the second time I have missed the Halloween parade in 11 years. The other time I was in Japan watching their version of a Halloween parade. Rain was falling for the beginning of the test, but by the time I walked out of my classroom in Taylor Hall at 5:30 the rain had stopped and the campus was empty. Upon seeing this scene I realized I should go get my camera.
More photos today from Saturday’s win over the Carroll College Fighting Saints…

This was called a touchdown. At the time I thought Jared Hunt's knee went down when the ball was at the one, but this photo shows his knees still in the air. I still think he went down before the ball crossed the goal line though.

Plays are called from the sidelines via images on the big sign and four other football players making hand signals and other gestures.
By the way, I met another photographer, George McKay, earlier in the day at the Ashland Monster Dash. He was also taking pictures at the football game and runs a blog similar to this one. Check out his Life in Ashland blog.
Saturday afternoon at Raider Stadium in Ashland will feature a big game. SOU is coming off three consecutive victories in which they scored 60+ points–something which has never been done before in college football in Oregon. Not even the Oregon Ducks can make such a claim.
Southern Oregon University’s opponent will be a formidable one however. The Carroll College Saints are ranked in the top 10 and have won the NAIA National Championship for football 6 times (all in the past 10 years!). This should be a good game.
Near the end of the last school year, construction began on a new “gateway” sign for Southern Oregon University on the corner of Siskiyou Boulevard and Mountain Avenue. It took months before the project was complete, but the new sign was ready before courses began again at SOU in September. Now that the landscaping doesn’t look so brand new and artificially placed, I decided to take a photo of it on a glorious fall afternoon earlier this week. The Plunkett Center can be seen a bit through the leaves in today’s pic.
Today’s photo is a better look at the Raider Hawk in the new gym floor of the Bob Riehm Arena that I mentioned yesterday.
This past Friday night I went to my first volleyball game in Southern Oregon University’s Bob Riehm Arena since the floor was redone. The Raider mascot logo is now on the middle of the floor, and it looks great. Liz Madden wasn’t anywhere near the floor when she made this kill in route to a 3-2, comeback victory for the Lady Raiders over Concordia University.
