Mt. Shasta

Photo taken October 2004

About an hour to the south of Ashland in the Cascade Mountain Range lies, or rather rises, Mount Shasta. The above photo is from high on the mountain itself. For a more distant view of the famous mountain see these pictures.

Although my son looks to be in pain he is actually quite happy that he has made it up this far.

Squaw Lake

Photo taken in September of 2004

Not far from Ashland is Squaw Lake, a cute little place which is usually devoid of people. The shores were covered in butterflies the day we visited.

SOU begins

Photo taken in August 2008

The above picture is of Churchill Hall, the administration building for SOU. Today is the first day of the fall term. Welcome back Southern Oregon University students!

Ashland Fire Station

Photo taken in August 2008

Fire Station No. 1 is now five years old.

The New Theatre

osf theater

Photo taken in August 2008

The New Theatre at Oregon Shakespeare Festival isn’t all that new anymore. I think it has now been around for six years, but it is still called The New Theatre. One of these days someone will buy the naming rights or they will name it after someone I suppose.

Pioneer Street

Photo taken in August 2008

Lots of signs in this one. We’ve got heraldic banners, the last phone booth in town, the Ashland Chamber of Commerce, a right turn on Pioneer gets you to OSF, and a place to park (if you are really lucky or are willing to pay). You can also get to my house by taking a right here (and then a left, right, right, and left).

Applegate Lake

Photo taken in August 2007

To the west of Ashland lies Applegate Lake (sometimes referred to as Applegate Reservoir). There are some good biking and hiking trails around the lake.

Near Fish Lake

Photo taken in July of 2007

The above picture is from a spot near Fish Lake, just east of Ashland, in the Oregon Cascade Mountains. There was a nice little trail that we road our bikes on, but you could also hike it if you wanted to. We didn’t see anyone else until we got to the resort area of Fish Lake.

Ashland Springs Hotel

Some Ashland landmarks–Shakespearean banners, Varsity Theatre (home of the Ashland Film Festival), and the Ashland Springs Hotel

Another view from the stands

Photo taken in September 2008

Every view is a good one from the SOU football stands. I’ve shown you three others, here and here and here.

The stands aren’t nearly full because this game happened a month before school began. Only the locals were in attendance.
