Today’s photo comes from my snowshoeing adventure a couple weekend’s ago. Although I’ve turned out at Rogue River Gorge Viewpoint on Highway 62 more than a dozen times over the years, I had never been to Natural Bridge Viewpoint before. The two are very close to each other, but Natural Bridge is a bit off the highway.
During winter you can’t get to the viewpoint via a car. That fact made this trek interesting for me. I was able to park in the normal turnout on Highway 62 even though the road (Rd 300 on Google maps) is not plowed. There was room for maybe three cars, but mine was the only one there on this day. From there I walked on snowshoes a little over half a mile to this location.
The Rogue River was higher than normal so the natural bridge in today’s photo isn’t that visible, but in person the scene was pretty spectacular. Water goes underground, through a lava tube, before exiting back into the Rogue River 250 feet downstream.

Autumn Durand moved into 3rd place among SOU’s all-time scoring leaders in last night’s win
@SOURaiders @ADurand25 @souwbb
Today, beginning at 1 at Ashland High School, the SOU women’s basketball team will play for their second consecutive Cascade Conference championship. Last year they won the conference outright. They must win today to become co-champions with Eastern Oregon University.
Should the Raiders and EOU finish with identical conference records (and Massey says there is a 96% chance they will), a coin flip will determine a couple things. Heads gets the “winner” an automatic seat at the national tournament. However, should they “lose” the coin flip, the result is even better. They will become the #1 seed in the conference tournament. Since SOU is already a near lock for the national tournament, they should be hoping to lose the coin flip. That will likely give them more home games in the conference tournament, which may lead to more victories (they haven’t lost at home in years), and possibly a higher seed at the national tournament.

2017 Southern Oregon University softball team
The big question for this season was pitching. Gabby Sandoval, a true freshman, appears to be the answer to the question. Sandoval is now 6-0 on the season, and SOU is 8-1 overall.
The home opener is just over three weeks away.

Ashland, Oregon
This morning’s sunrise was a good one–peachy, rather than pink, for Valentine’s Day. This photo isn’t from this morning though. My random, desktop image of the day is from 2010.

flock of wild turkeys
@AshlandAnimals
We had a flock of about ten wild turkeys hanging out in our backyard yesterday. Today’s photo shows most of them. They were bigger than other turkeys we’ve had before.
