After splitting the regular season title with Eastern Oregon, Southern Oregon beat EOU in straight sets last night to claim the conference tournament crown for the second year in a row. As one of the top teams, they will skip the opening round and head to Iowa in early December for the 40th Annual NAIA Volleyball National Championship.
Massey Ratings has the Raiders at #5, and the coaches will likely have them at #5 as well when the new poll comes out tomorrow.

More details here.
Although the Raiders have the #5 ranking and Corban is #11 (according to the coaches’ poll), Massey has things reversed with Corban at #6 and SOU at #13. Massey ranks Corban’s schedule as the most challenging in all of the NAIA. Corban barely lost to undefeated #2 Northwestern (who Massey has as #1).
The winner on Friday will grab first place in the conference while the loser will fall back into a 2nd place tie with Eastern Oregon (who Massey has as #3).

SOU landed, not one but, two volleyball players on the NAIA All American list today. Neither is a senior so look for another amazing season in 2019. Details here.

As I mentioned early last week, Southern Oregon came into their pool as the #2 team according to the coaches but as the #1 team according to Massey Ratings. Today the Raiders proved Massey correct despite a 5-set loss to Viterbo. SOU moves forward to the final 16 as the #1 team in their pool where they may be playing against Marian next–yes, the very same Marian that SOU has lots of history with in football, women’s basketball, and softball. Massey had the Raiders at #8 and Marian at #25 before today’s win. If not Marian, then Rocky Mountain will be the next opponent.
