Southern Oregon University Baseball Club vs. Oregon State Beavers

The Raiders haven’t had a collegiate baseball team since the 1980s, but since 2014 they now have a club team. They played a triple-header at North Mountain Park yesterday. If you want to see them play, the rest of their home schedule is as follows:
April 22-23 vs. University of Oregon
April 29-30 vs. Portland State University
I’m sometimes asked what my favorite sport is to shoot. Although I enjoy watching (and playing) baseball/softball more than perhaps any other sport, the most photogenic sport is certainly steeplechase. I never know if I got a great shot when I shoot steeplechase (unlike football, basketball, etc.), but steeplechase photos are always fun to go through once I get home and can view them on a large screen.

March Madness, NAIA Women’s DII Basketball style, began yesterday. The Raiders will be playing today (3/9/17) at 8:15 a.m. PST.
SOU’s Kelsey Randall was chosen as the CCC softball Player of the Week. She went 9-for-17 against the College of Idaho, helping SOU to a 3-1 record over the weekend. Randall had two triples, a double, and five runs scored. She has reached base safely in 16 of the Raiders’ 18 games, leading Southern Oregon to their 14-4 record.
Southern Oregon’s home openers are this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m.
A few years back monks from the Shaolin Temple in the Henan Province of China visited SOU to perform with the Huaxia Orchestra from the museum in Zhengzhou. Having visited the Shaolin Temple and the museum in Zhengzhou a few years before that, it was not a night I was going to miss.

Autumn Durand moved into 3rd place among SOU’s all-time scoring leaders in last night’s win

Today, beginning at 1 at Ashland High School, the SOU women’s basketball team will play for their second consecutive Cascade Conference championship. Last year they won the conference outright. They must win today to become co-champions with Eastern Oregon University.
Should the Raiders and EOU finish with identical conference records (and Massey says there is a 96% chance they will), a coin flip will determine a couple things. Heads gets the “winner” an automatic seat at the national tournament. However, should they “lose” the coin flip, the result is even better. They will become the #1 seed in the conference tournament. Since SOU is already a near lock for the national tournament, they should be hoping to lose the coin flip. That will likely give them more home games in the conference tournament, which may lead to more victories (they haven’t lost at home in years), and possibly a higher seed at the national tournament.
