The Raiders open their season next Saturday (9/3/16) at Eastern. Massey Ratings has the Raiders winning by 4. Massey has EOU at #10 in the country. The (more biased and less accurate) NAIA Football Coaches’ Poll has EOU at #26.

Aldrick Rosas was the Tennessee Titans kicker in the 4th quarter of their first 2016 preseason game yesterday. He was 1-1 in field goals, 1-1 in extra points, and his kickoffs were impressive as always.

Anyone who watched Jace Billingsley against the Raiders the past few seasons will not be surprised to see him make a play like this for the Detroit Lions. He nearly single-handedly beat the Raiders in 2013 and 2014.
In 2013 he led both teams with 161 yards receiving. He also threw for a TD on a trick play to win the game for EOU. In 2014, things got even more out of hand as he amassed 260 yards, mostly on the ground in another EOU upset over SOU. He was basically the only guy the Raiders couldn’t stop in 2014. After that game, the Raiders went on to win four straight and the national championship.
Renee Yomtob @ Seaside Beach Volleyball Tournament
As mentioned yesterday, this year’s tournament is in full swing. Former Southern Oregon standouts Renee Yomtob and Sarah Holgen are 4-0 as of this writing. I believe it’s a double-elimination tournament so they won’t be going home anytime soon.
The team of Friar / Goudarzian is also hanging in there, currently with a 5-1 record.

The world’s largest beach volleyball tournament is happening right now in Seaside, Oregon. We are not there this year. Today’s photo is from last year.

Massey predicts SOU’s 2016 football season

It’s way too early for these rankings to mean anything, but the NAIA coaches have SOU at #2 in the country, and Massey has them at #3. Massey Ratings, as shown above, also has SOU winning all of their regular season games against NAIA opponents. At Eastern Oregon, for the very first game, is a tough draw. If SOU can start the season 3-1 or 4-0, then these preseason predictions are probably correct. Go Raiders!

Despite never having won the Frontier Conference title outright, and never being the preseason favorite previously, Southern Oregon is the favorite for 2016. With early road games against Eastern Oregon University and Carroll College and no home games against Carroll College in 2016, it won’t be easy. More details here.
