For the first time in many weeks, the SOU Men’s Basketball Team is moving up, instead of down, in the national rankings. This week they are checking in at #15 before their weekend visit over the Cascade Mountain Range to Klamath Falls to take on Oregon Tech (who they have already defeated twice this season).
Last night was the last regular season home basketball games at SOU. Since both teams won there is a good chance that there will be at least one home game in the Cascade Conference Playoffs. They still have three games to go on the road before we know for sure.
Due to it being the possible final performances in front of the home crowd, it was also senior night. Two women and five men were honored. The men were given poster boards with a bunch of my photos on them. David Sturner was checking out the pics you can see below in the above photo.
Last night was Breast Cancer Awareness Night at the SOU basketball games. Both the men’s and women’s teams wore pink socks.
The referees in the women’s game blew pink whistles.
And Coach Kennedy sported a pink tie.
The results were good. Both SOU teams won, and both moved into second place in the 10-team Cascade Conference.
Tonight is Senior Night so arrive by 7 p.m. (after the women’s game) to see the honoring of the seniors on both teams. Better yet, arrive at 5:30 to watch the women’s game as they face a difficult Evergreen team which beat OIT last night.
Although both teams are currently in position to host at least one home game in the Cascade Conference Playoffs, they are also just a loss or two away from 5th place which would mean tonight will be their last home game(s). So come cheer them on to victory and hopefully some more home games.
Concordia-Irvine won the National Championship last year, and they are ranked #1 this year, but two of their past three losses (mingled with 48 victories) are against the SOU Women’s Softball Team. Sydney White led the way, as she probably will all this season, with a complete game victory.
