Willow Lake is just an hour from Ashland, not much farther than Lake of the Woods (which I’ve been to dozens of times over the years). And yet, I’d never heard of it until last week. I bounced the name off of a few friends who have also been in Ashland for over 20 years, and they hadn’t hear of it either. Did I just “out” a somewhat secret lake?
Should you find yourself wanting to visit this place, don’t put “Willow Lake” into Google Maps or you may get sent down the wrong road. Instead, use “Willow Lake County Park”.
Today’s photo comes from a little over two weeks ago, when Ashland had perhaps the most spectacular sunset I’ve ever encountered. Not only was the sunset incredible in its own right, but a (sometimes double) rainbow appeared to go along with thunder and lighting. In fact, a few seconds after I took this photo, lightning shot straight through the rainbow.
Did you know that Grizzly Peak (elevation of 5,922 feet) once had a conical and relatable size to nearby volcano Mount McLoughlin (9,493 feet)?
