Smooth Sailing

I got back, at 1 a.m. this morning, from a couple of days in Seattle. It rained most of the time, in typical Seattle fashion, but at least it wasn’t freezing like the last time I went there this time of year.

Although there wasn’t much to do in the outdoors, due to the weather, the nightlife is always good in Seattle. I went to a place called El Corazon to see four bands I had never heard of before. I ended up really liking three of them. The first was the one pictured above, Smooth Sailing. Sans the vocals (metalcore-like vocals are not my thing), they were perfect in every way. With vocals, I will pass on purchasing anything they put out, but I would certainly like to see them live again.

Final Seattle post

Tomorrow we will return to Ashland. For my last photo from Seattle I offer the sign above the Pike Place Market.

Space Needle branch frame

I have seen many “city towers” in my day (Toronto, Montreal, Kyoto, etc.) and of the non-Eiffel Tower variety (i.e., not Paris and Tokyo) I must say I am most impressed with the Space Needle. Even though it is over 40 years old, it doesn’t look nearly as old as other, younger ones. It lacks the paneling and excessive use of cement that give other towers a tacky look.

Guitar Sculpture at EMP

For a closer view of this amazing work at Experience Music Project, see yesterday’s entry on my other blog.

Pike Place Fish Market

This is the fish place in Pike Place Market that is famous for throwing fish (as well as lots of other vocal hoopla) whenever a customer orders something. In this pic I was able to capture a rare, quiet moment at Pike Place Fish Market.

Pig Bench

This bench was on the grounds of the Chambered Nautilus. Unfortunately, it was far too cold to ever enjoy this fun little seat.

University of Washington

The morning of our first morning in Seattle was bitterly cold. In the afternoon the clouds began to break up and things got pretty.
