The race to Daytona will finish today. If you aren’t in Daytona already, you can watch the game on ESPNU. If you don’t have ESPNU, head to somewhere that does. If you are in Ashland you can watch the game with others at places like RedZone, Northwest Pizza, Club 66, or Omars. Additional places to watch can be found here. Game time is noon PST.

Wild Hunt is such a ridiculously amazing band. Last night they were in Ashland. Tonight they play Springfield/Eugene, and tomorrow night they will wrap up their four night tour of the Northwest in Seattle.
A friend was telling me that I would like Major Jones after happening upon them at Roscoe’s BBQ in Phoenix (between Ashland and Medford) one evening. So last night we headed up old Highway 99 to check them out. By the time they played Black Sabbath’s “Fairies Wear Boots” (about their fourth or fifth song of their nearly three hour set) I realized I had a new favorite local band to follow. Their original songs sounded great, and they covered Robin Trower, The Ramones, Cliff Burton-era Metallica (twice), Radiohead, AC/DC, and Motorhead.

I had given up hope of recording video with a DSLR when the results from my D7000 were so underwhelming. I heard bad things about the audio with the D600 so I hadn’t even bothered to try. However, last night, just for kicks since I could set my camera on a table, I tried taking a couple of short video clips with the default settings and no external mic. The results came out better than my D7000 with an external mic! So now I have to consider actually trying to take decent videos with my Nikon D600 using something better than the default settings and with an external microphone.
I headed over the Green Springs on Highway 66 last night with my son and his friend to see Floater perform at Oregon Tech (OIT) in Klamath Falls. I have never really been to Klamath Falls before even though it less than two hours from Ashland. I have been through it a few times, but the last time was probably five years ago. So this was my first time on the OIT campus. Floater basically played at the end of the hallway in the student union building, not your typical concert venue.
The stage was only a foot off the ground (if that), there were no spot lights, and strong sunlight was coming in through the blinds behind the band for the first few songs so conditions and lighting were really poor for photography or for just seeing the band (as you’ll especially note in the video at the end).
The crowd was enthusiastic and appreciative. That’s my son, Ryan, in the middle there (with all of the hair) trying to get a mosh pit going. I’m proud to say he succeeded.

I’ll process a few more photos of Floater from last night and post them tomorrow.
