The lighting of the pyrotechnics

fireworks lighting

I always assumed that on fancy firework displays a button was pushed and everything went off like a computer program. It appears that each one is being lit individually. Thanks for these “behind the scenes” shots Amanda.

I’ll complete the Independence Day series tomorrow with a shot taken at the same time as the above from a mile away.

Different angle on fireworks

fireworks from the bottom

It has been almost a month since the festivities of the 4th, but I still have dozens of pics to share. I’ll wrap things up over the next few days and then share the rest next year (when we won’t be around Ashland anyway).

Amanda got to help set up the fireworks display so these exclusive shots (today and tomorrow) are from her.

This is on Iowa Street between the SOU softball and soccer fields.

A different angle than I have previously shown you on the Ashland Springs Hotel.

Ashland Library

The library steps are a popular place to watch the parade. I heard there were more than 25,000 in attendance this year. Not bad for a town with a population of under 22,000–especially when you consider that most of the 5,000 students who attend SOU are gone for the summer.

Actors

Ashland is well known for its theaters. Not only do we have the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, but there are several other theaters (Oregon Cabaret Theater, Oregon Stage Works, etc.) in town. Most usually have a parade entry featuring their current or a future production with the actors all in play costumes.

Faces in the crowd

No story here. I was just walking around during the parade (after our entry finished) taking pictures of interesting looking people. I think his vest indicates he is a member of the Ashland Lions Club.

Fourth of July biker girl

ashland bike girl

This lady is seemingly always on her bike. I see her around town nearly daily, all year long. She doesn’t wait for a holiday to decorate her bike either. A day like the 4th of July is her day to shine in the parade, doing what she does best.
