Crater High School comes into today’s game at 5 p.m. at North Mountain Park with an eight-game winning streak. Ashland has only six conference games remaining (while Crater has nine). Three of those are head-to-head games between the Comets and Grizzlies. In the Midwestern League Ashland is three back of Crater in the loss column and two back of Marist. Ideally, they need a sweep of Crater, Crater to beat Marist a couple times, and Eagle Point to upset Marist once as well in order to win the league. The top six teams in the conference make the playoffs, and the top four get home games. The top two in the league get first round byes and likely home games deeper into the playoffs though.

Tylor King
@SOURaiders @SOU_Football @SOUTrackXC
Normally there are more judges than spectators when it comes to shot put. Not so yesterday at the Raider Invitational. Tylor King is also on the football team, and a large contingent of football players and other SOU athletes came out to support him. Having dozens cheer him on, Tylor nearly hit 55 feet. Even the shortest of his six throws traveled much farther than any of his competitors. He has a good chance to place at Nationals next month in Alabama.

SOU Track and Field decathlete Joe Dotson

The heptathlon is over, and favorite Tiana Thomas took first place again.
Freshman Joe Dotson of Southern Oregon is clinging to a slim second-place lead heading into the final events of the decathlon. Oregon Tech’s Seth Gretz, one of the NAIA’s top decathletes, has a large lead.

2016 Rogue Valley Volleyball Club 18 Team
After narrowly missing out on qualifying for Nationals at the NCVA 2016 Golden State National Qualifier (RVC 18 lost only once to the eventual tournament champion), the RVC 18 Team comes into the larger Reno tournament as the #38 seed out of over 110 teams. The rankings will change rapidly and aren’t very reflective at this point as RVC 18 has beaten multiple times several teams that are higher ranked at the outset.
RVC 18 won their first contest of the tournament 25-11, 25-7.

Nick Sanderson was the big contributor on offense and defense in the Grizzlies win over Churchill yesterday. He held the Lancers to just one run through five innings of work on the mound. His triple (and run scored) and RBI double in his first two at bats on the offensive side of things were the difference in the game.
Ashland will face Churchill twice more this weekend in Eugene. Next week AHS is back in town against Crater, who will likely come into that game riding an eight-game winning streak.
