We’ve spent the past week in a sunny paradise. In less than 24 hours we’ll be back on a plane headed for Ashland and the 20-something degrees that await our arrival.
The “Beach of the Dead” (Playa De Los Muertos) is so named for the cemetery nearby. It’s actually quite lovely and a great place to avoid the crowds (on Sayulita’s main beach) if you are ever in Sayulita, Mexico.
We will start Christmas with 80+ degree temps in Sayulita, Mexico (where we are now). By the end of the day we’ll be back in Ashland where the temperature will likely be in the 20s, and snow may be on the ground. Today’s photo is from last week just after the prior weekend’s snowfall began to melt at the lower elevations.
No one answered my question, but the answer to “What do these numbers (9, 1, 3, 7, 10, 2, 1) mean?” is, “the rankings of the teams the Raiders beat in the playoffs over the past two years”. A streak of seven consecutive, playoff victories over top 10 teams (five of the games on the road) is impressive to say the least. Four of those victories came over teams in the top 3 (all on the road). Amazing.
The coaches’ poll has three Frontier Conference teams in the top 25. Massey’s final rankings has seven Frontier Conference teams in the top 25. The coaches still aren’t paying attention to Massey despite Massey’s perfect record in predicting the final three rounds of the playoffs (compared to the coaches’, less than a coin flip, 3-4 record).
The Raiders came up short of another national championship in 2015, but they were the ones on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10 Plays of the Day.
Count on SOU to be even better in 2016. Southern Oregon lost 4 All-Americans, including the NAIA Player of the Year, after 2014. Not that we won’t miss this year’s seniors, but the loss of 4 All-Americans isn’t the case after 2015. All-American Julius Rucker, Tanner Trosin, Matt Retzlaff, all of the running backs, and most of the other core players will be back in 2016.
P.S. Once again Massey was better at predicting things than biased people like myself and the coaches. Luckily, no Marian fans took me up on my wagering proposition.
