This weekend the U16 Siskiyou Volleyball Club Team (featuring much of next year’s Ashland High School Varsity Team) will be headed north up I-5 to a three-day tournament in Eugene (Springfield actually, CEVA Presidents’ Day Tournament). I’ll be joining them for the first two days.

Congratulations to several members of the Ashland High School Football Team for making the 2013 Class 5A All-State Team. Max Montgomery, Walker Shibley, and Danial White made the first team, and many others made the second team and honorable mention.

We Love Our Grizzlies
The Ashland Grizzlies Football Team continued their perfect season tonight with a win on the road to advance to the semifinal round of the Oregon State Championship. Next up for the 11-0 Grizzlies is the #1 seed (the only other undefeated 5A school, Sherwood, in the state) on the road.

Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. tonight (11/8/13) against Pendleton. The Grizzlies have a perfect 9-0 record but were shortchanged in the seeding. Despite finishing #3 in the polls, AHS will go into the 2013 OSAA 5A State Football Championships as the #5 seed. (Ashland beat Springfield in the game featured in today’s photos, and Springfield went in with two losses as the #3 seed.)
The seeding makes a big difference. Assuming the top seeds win, Ashland will have to defeat Pendleton, the #4 seed, and the #1 seed in order to advance to the championship game. The #2 and #3 seeds don’t face anyone higher than the #6 seed before facing each other in the semifinals. Obtaining the #5 seed instead of the #4 or #3 seed also means this is likely the last game at home for the Grizzlies.
