Frank Beard of ZZ Top @ Britt (June 2022)

The first time I saw ZZ Top live was in 2021, just a few days after Dusty Hill died. Frank Beard died yesterday, just four days after seeing them for the third time.

ZZ Top @ Britt (June 2022)

ZZ Top played at the Expo last night, with Cheap Trick opening.

Frank Beard, the drummer, is no longer touring with ZZ Top, leaving Billy Gibbons as the only original member these days. The drum kit was the same as it was four years ago, with the exception of the “Señor Beard” being covered over in black tape.

Four years ago, DSO played at Britt on the hottest day of the year. This year, they likely did the same. 102 degrees at showtime. Over 90 degrees after 9 p.m.

BFO (June 25, 2026, 9:04 p.m.)

A bit over a week ago, we had one of those super dreamy nights that followed days of intense heat. The weather was changing, and the clouds provided a lovely blanket. When we arrived at Britt for Holst’s “The Planets” at 6:30 it was about 80 degrees. When we left at 10 p.m. it was 73 degrees. Perfection.
