We got snowed on last night. You may remember how autumn and winter got confused back in November. Today’s photo demonstrates that spring and winter can get their signals crossed as well.
BTW, can anyone identify these blossoms? Are they cherry or plum? In Japan the plum blossoms appear in February and the cherry blossoms in April, but these look more like plum blossoms to me.
The cherry blossoms on our property began to open on Saturday when I took this photo. I misidentified them as plum blossoms (since I tend to think of Japan’s white cherry blossoms and pink plum blossoms) in a prior picture.
Ashland can’t hold a candle to Japan when it comes to cherry blossoms, but we do have our fair share of blossoming trees anyway. They have begun to open in the past few days but are yet to peak. Hopefully, we’ll have weather like today’s for a week or two from here on out to fully enjoy them.
Today’s photo is another I took from my friend’s deck a couple weekend’s ago.
Last year my wife planted these flowers (six different kinds–only two and a bit of a third can be seen in this photograph) in the planter box on our deck. After a month or two they died, as flowers do, which was good actually. Normally we plant something and the deer eat them by the next morning. The deer didn’t touch these.
We did nothing to the planter box over the winter. The dead flowers remained. This spring they have all come back to life and have been giving us great visual pleasure for the past month plus. Incredible flowers these are–to be able to bounce back like this after sitting under snow and freezing temperatures all winter and at the same time not be tempting to the deer.
A good way to start the morning…
The cherry blossoms have begun to make their appearance. This tree is in the Ashland YMCA parking lot. Grizzly Peak is in the background.

This was our old cherry tree in the peak of its glory. A couple of winters ago we had a huge snow storm that caused such heavy and sticky snow that every branch on this tree broke (as did many in town). It is slowly making a comeback. Perhaps I’ll show some pictures of it in the storm here in this blog this coming winter and then how it looks next March when it blooms again.

The New Theatre at Oregon Shakespeare Festival isn’t all that new anymore. I think it has now been around for six years, but it is still called The New Theatre. One of these days someone will buy the naming rights or they will name it after someone I suppose.

The above picture was taken from Tolman Creek Road in front of the house near the YMCA that usually has many geese in their yard and also features a small pond. The angle was my way of greening up Grizzly Peak which is pretty brown this time of year.
