Chocolate cupcakes from Jolene’s Sweets
Need something for a birthday party, summer picnic, or special event? Call Jolene.
To keep things interesting when I do a photo shoot after Jolene bakes something up, I try to use a different lens each time. I think I have used seven different lenses on her sweets now. For the above photo I used my 50mm f/1.2 manual lens. I have only used this lens a couple times since purchasing it over craigslist for a ridiculously low price. I don’t know why I don’t use it more often as it takes fantastic photos with creamy backgrounds at f/1.2. The manual focus is actually a fun change of pace too.
I enjoyed a birthday cake (for someone else’s birthday) from Jolene’s Sweets this past weekend. I also had one of her scones, and I’m quite certain it was the best scone I have ever had.
Today’s photo is of a box of cookies from last month.
There was a party for the volunteers who helped with the 2013 Ashland Independent Film Festival last night at Scienceworks. Jolene provided the sweets.
Jolene whipped up some more of her creations yesterday. The one in focus in today’s photo is her Chocolate Turtle Cake, a rich, three-layer dark chocolate cake frosted with rich creamy fudge, caramel, and toasted pecans.

If giant cookies or a whole cake are more than you long for, then check out some of Jolene’s new mini treats.
Later today I’m going to be photographing some of Jolene’s sticky buns, but I’ll leave you with these cookies for now. Santa will be very pleased with these cookies and some milk so place your order soon.
Jolene baked up some more desserts for me to photograph a week ago. Last time I used only natural light from her dining room windows to illuminate her sweets. This time thick fog wrapped the house so natural light wasn’t an option. I used a different lens and some alternative lighting for a different look.
