Korean Dancers @ SOU (November 13, 2012)

Today’s photo comes from just a month before I was heading to Korea for the first (and only) time. Sadly, there are few international students on campus these days thanks to Covid-19.
I’ll be back in Ashland in a week, with some fresh photos from Oregon soon thereafter. Until then, if you want to check out some of my recent pics from Korea, click here.
I have mentioned before that I’m in Korea and have been for the past month. If you want to take a look at some of my recent photos from Korea, click here.
Today’s photo is of former Chicago Cubs, Florida Marlins, and Los Angeles Dodgers player Hee-Seop Choi. Choi is back in South Korea, playing for his hometown team, the Gwangju KIA Tigers. I’m living in Gwangju now so I have seen him play several times. Choi was the first Korean position player in Major League Baseball. He didn’t hit all-star status in MLB, though he was featured in the 2005 Home Run Derby as South Korea’s representative when they toyed with the international component to the event that year.
He led the KIA Tigers to the Korean Championship in 2009 after leaving MLB.
Jeju island in South Korea is famous for its black pig. Apparently they have some pink ones too. Or at least they used to…
I enjoyed a pig in the form of one of the better hire katsu I have had, and perhaps the best katsu I have eaten outside of Japan while on Jeju.
