More Floater
I remembered to change the microphone to low sensitivity (under movie settings) on my Nikon D7000. That made the audio sound pretty good most of the time, but it still has a problem when a really heavy bass kicks in as you will hear (especially during the first song, My Burden, below) during parts of the following videos. I think I will purchase an external microphone and attenuator for next time to see if I can get better results.
I had to manually focus these videos as the lighting in the Rogue Theatre is really poor. Floater was pretty much playing in the dark.

I’m not normally a huge fan of bluegrass music (even though Intuitive Compass’s strand of bluegrass is more than a bit twisted), but after the Ashland Halloween Parade I enjoyed listening to Intuitive Compass, who set up in the middle of the normally busy street on the Ashland Plaza. Perhaps it was the beer, or the costumes, or Wyatt Yurth’s resemblance to Mikael Akerfeldt; all I know is I felt very good at the time.

The first I ever heard of Aimee Mann was on Rush’s “Time Stand Still” (video below). Alas, “Hold Your Fire” is my least favorite Rush studio album, which is saying a lot since they have 19 of them.
No, I became a fan in the 1990s when a friend put “I’m with Stupid” on his “desert island discs” list so I gave her a try; I’ve been hooked ever since.

More Brandi Carlile
As promised, here are some more photos from Brandi Carlile’s performance at the Britt Festivals in Jacksonville, Oregon on June 22, 2011.
Brandi opened the show for Ray LaMontagne. I’ll have some more pictures for you on a later date.

Brandi Carlile opened for Ray LaMontagne a few nights back at the Britt Festival. Although Ray was kind enough to provide me with a photo pass (as photography isn’t allowed at Britt without one), it (and all of the photo passes issued that evening) had the stipulation that photos could only be taken from this one spot (which was obviously far from the stage and only capable of capturing Ray’s backside or occasional profile).
One good thing about this vantage point is it can give you a good shot of the crowd too (with a wide angle lens).
I used my new 50mm 1.8 for this second shot. I think I could have gotten some great shots with it from my seat down front in what became lower light later, but I didn’t get to test out that possibility due to the rules.
Finally, at the maximum zoom in my bag (200mm), here is as close as I could get. The possibilities weren’t very numerous from a fixed point with a band that doesn’t move around or change expressions much, but I still had a great time and Ray and the Pariah Dogs sounded great.

Brandi Carlile at Britt Festival last night
Had a great time at Britt in Jacksonville yesterday. The first time I saw Brandi Carlile was at Britt in 2005 when few people had heard of her. This time I had a much better seat and a photo pass. She should really be headlining this show now. Maybe next year.
Anyway, I have a bunch of decent photos from this performance. Today I’ll just give you a taste (as I have only a few minutes to kill before I board a plane to Amsterdam) of what’s to come with these two pictures.
