Ashland High School Baseball – Bryce Rogan
This afternoon @ North Mountain Park the #4 Grizzles will open Round 1 of the 5A OSAA Baseball State Championship by hosting #13 seed Dallas High School (near Salem). First pitch is scheduled for 4:30.

@AJ_Peterson1 Regionals begin this weekend with the Beavers staying home to host UNLV, UC Irvine, and North Dakota State.
Today’s photo is from the 2013 season. Andy Peterson has since changed numbers to #1. He leads the Beavers in stolen bases this season with 9. He is also tied for second on the team with 41 runs scored.
Ashland High School Baseball – Jerry Carroll
Ashland High School baseball avoided the play-in round of games by finishing 4th in the state rankings. That means they will likely have two home games. The first is May 28. If they win that game they will get another game in Ashland on May 30. The bad news is that due to the late season defeats they will probably have to travel to the #1 seed (unless Bend is upset before then) for the semifinal round. Had they ended the regular season ranked higher they could have earned an additional home game. Go Grizz!
I’m heading up to Vancouver Lake in Washington today to catch the end of the NW Junior Regional Rowing Championships. I probably won’t see much. Crew isn’t much of a spectator sport unless you get to be in a boat. I’ll be going more to bring kids back to Ashland tomorrow.

This photo sequence is somewhat symbolic of the AHS season. What started out so promising (14 wins in a row) has recently slipped down the left field line (3-4 in last 7 games). However, the season isn’t over. With a doubleheader sweep @ Eagle Point tomorrow (5/17/14), the Grizzlies should have one of the top seeds in the state championship tournament. A mere 6-game winning streak to end the season is what the Grizzlies really need.

@BuckleRash First up last night was Buckle Rash. I had met these guys before for a 5-minute photo shoot for the Jefferson State Vines cover, but I had never seen them play live. I’m not normally one to seek out live experiences with bands who include words like “country” or “punk” in their description. However, I was very pleasantly surprised. They are fantastic.

This was also my first show at the Imperial Event Center in Medford. The IEC is beautiful–great sound, raised stage, best lighting in Medford, lots of nice seating, hardwood dance floor, and inexpensive drinks. The only drawback is you can’t see the band if you are in the bar. Maybe that’s a good thing if you are skipping one of the bands. 😉

Breakfast w/ beer @ Club 66
There are lots of good places to eat breakfast in Ashland. On the weekends you can wait for an hour before being served (at places like Breadboard, Morning Glory, The Wild Goose, and Brothers–all wonderful places to eat BTW) and walk out paying $10-15 for your meal if you drink water. However, did you know that on Sunday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. you can walk into Club 66 and have a delicious breakfast without waiting AND have a beer too for just $8? If Sunday morning (early afternoon) sports are your thing then you can watch the game while you eat!
