SOU Soccer – Kylie Moltzen

The Southern Oregon University Women’s Soccer Team plays in Medford today (8/31/14) at 2 p.m. This will be their final game at U.S. Cellular Field. The next home game will be on the new field at Raider Stadium on 9/25/14.

Update: The 9/25 game will be in Medford. The field in Ashland isn’t ready yet.

Squadron of pelicans

I took today’s photo a week ago while we were at a friend’s ranch a few hours to the east of Ashland. You probably won’t see pelicans in Ashland, but they are common near Klamath Lake. This picture captures only about half of the total pelicans that made up this squadron. After gracefully circling around the property for more than 10 minutes they were scared off by a single hawk.

Once upon a time, less than a year ago, my photos that showed up on souraiders.com were frequently too small to see and/or cropped in such a way that balls and heads were cut off. The new Raiders site is much improved, with bigger photos, and less cropping. The photo of today’s soccer game was cropped a bit. This is mostly my fault for not cropping it to fit on the SOU site correctly, but I wanted to give you the full photo in case you are interested.

Yes, those are birds in cages in the windows upstairs. I could hear them from across a wide and busy street. It was only when I looked for where the sound was coming from that I saw the bearded man.

SOU Women’s Soccer – Lisa Elledge

School doesn’t begin for another six weeks, but sports begin much earlier than classes. SOU’s new soccer field is not yet ready so this weekend’s tournament (featuring Marymount California University, Concordia, and The Master’s College in addition to SOU) will be held at the U.S. Cellular soccer fields in Medford.

SOU plays at 2:30 on Saturday (8/23/14) and 11 on Monday (8/25/14). Tickets are available here.
