SOU’s 7-game winning streak came to end last weekend. Today seems like a great time to begin a new, 5-game winning streak.
Volleyball tonight (but not in Ashland)

Assuming the car functions properly and the weather gods play nice, I will be shooting my first, ever away volleyball game for the SOU Raiders tonight in La Grande, Oregon. I’ve never been to La Grande before, but the combination of SOU volleyball tonight, Raider football tomorrow, and nothing else going on this weekend has compelled me to take a road trip.
The winner of tonight’s semifinal match will likely play Eastern Oregon University tomorrow night for the 2015 Cascade Collegiate Conference Volleyball Tournament Championship.

The Raiders take on the #1 seed (Carroll College) tonight in CCC semifinal action. The game is in Springfield and begins at 7 p.m. The Raiders started the season slowly but have won eight of their last ten games. Details from last night’s marathon can be found here.

Since losing to the Raiders on September 12, Eastern Oregon University has won, lost, won, lost, won, lost, and won–in that order. Since they won last week against College of Idaho, they are due for a loss this Saturday when SOU visits. Massey has Southern Oregon as a 4-point favorite. Compughterratings picks SOU by 11.

The new football rankings have been released, and they look almost identical to my prediction. Fortunately, SOU is in the top eight so a win at Eastern Oregon this Saturday will get them a home playoff game. Unfortunately, only two other teams ahead of the Raiders in the rankings have difficult matchups this weekend. Doane will likely drop out of the top eight. Montana Tech could if they lose at home to Western Montana. Therefore, it will likely take at least two upsets in the first round of the playoffs for the Raiders to earn more than one home playoff game.
