Clementine explained to the audience in Grants Pass that Zepparella never gets to celebrate Gretchen’s birthday, as it falls between Christmas and New Years when they aren’t playing any shows, so we had an early celebration at the Rogue Theatre.

This past Friday night I had the chance to see Zepparella for about the tenth time.
The show was my first chance to test out my new Nikon Z 50 in a concert setting. I had several reservations about going with a mirrorless camera. Those included a drop in quality for concert and sports shooting, short battery life, and the need for an adapter with non Z lenses. I didn’t buy the FTZ adapter, to not have to deal with the added weight, so that wasn’t a problem. After taking over 350 photos on a single charge the battery is still showing “full” so battery life doesn’t seem to be an issue. And even though I brought the wrong lens (I mistakenly grabbed the 50-250mm f/6.3 instead of the 50mm f/1.8), the pictures still came out OK. With a 1.8 lens I think concert photos will be really nice. At f/6.3 the ISO is quite a bit higher and the shutter speed is a bit slower than it will be when I use a faster lens in the future.
Next time, front row with the Nikon 20mm f/1.8 S lens.
Tonight Zepparella will be playing in Eugene at Sessions. Tomorrow they will be in Portland at Dante’s. Next Friday night (12/13/19) Zepparella will perform at the Rogue Theatre in Grants Pass.
