After defeating two teams by a combined score of 18-0 yesterday, the Raiders will still need to beat OIT twice today for another national championship. First game is at 2 p.m. PT. You can watch on ESPN3.

The Cascade Conference will likely end the season with the #1, #2, and #3 ranked teams in the country.

The Raiders eliminated Mount Mercy today, narrowing the NAIA Softball World Series field to just five teams. Next up is the winner of the Madonna vs. Bethany game (sounds like an 80s pop competition). The SOU vs winner game is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT on Tuesday.

With many of the highly-ranked teams eliminated during the opening round, the final-10 teams include many surprises, mostly surprises really. The CCC has the #1, #2, and #4 rankings. What other conference has achieved such a feat in any sport?

Massey has the CCC teams at #1, #2, and #5 (with the #3 and #4 teams already eliminated).

Let’s look at the first-round matchups according to Massey…

College of Idaho gets Ottawa, who Massey has at #21 and gives C of I a 70% chance of winning.
Oregon Tech gets the winner of Mount Mercy and Houston-Victoria, who Massey has at #47 and #57 respectively. Oregon Tech will win over 80% of the time against either team according to Massey.
SOU gets the winner of Milligan and Bethany, who Massey has at #30 and #86 respectively. The Raiders will win over 85% of the time against either team according to Massey.

The only non-CCC team in Massey’s top twenty that made the final 10 is Olivet, the #3 seed.

Games begin a week from today.

2021 Southern Oregon University Softball Team

All three of the Cascade Conference softball teams that made the opening round are headed to Georgia for the NAIA College Softball World Series next week. Massey Ratings had all three teams in the top 20, with SOU and OIT in the top four. The coaches had OIT way down at #17. Massey did not have the coaches’ #2 and #3 in the top five. Perhaps not surprisingly, they are not headed to Georgia.

I’ll post more commentary on Massey and the Softball World Series once the site has been updated for the opening round games.
