In addition to all the great points made here, consider that SOU only has 11 sports. (Next year there will be 12 with men’s soccer being added.) Many of the teams in the top ten for the Director’s Cup have 20 or more athletic teams. Their top 12 teams count. All of SOU’s teams count, and a zero is awarded for the missing sport.
What would be interesting is to see a weighted-average Directors Cup where a school’s score is divided by the number of sports they compete in. For instance, SOU scored 696.5 points. Divide that by 11 sports for 63.32 weighted points. The #1 school, Oklahoma Baptist University, scored 854.50 points. Divide that by their 20 athletic teams for 42.73 weighted points. Hmmmm… I wonder if any school with 11 or fewer sports scored anywhere near Southern Oregon’s total?

100 Watt Mind on campus tonight

100 Watt Mind will headline a rare concert on the SOU campus this evening. Back in the 1970s bands regularly played in the S.U. Check out the posters near the Office of International Programs on the second floor. I don’t know why this doesn’t still happen. But tonight you can check out the amazing 100 Watt Mind live in the basement and help out a good cause.

Amelia Maguin wasn’t SOU’s only champion at nationals this past weekend. Dylan Alexander won the 5,000 meter run despite being the #3 seed. Today’s photo shows him receiving third place from Commissioner Rob Cashell in the 1,500 at the Cascade Conference Championship in Ashland despite being the #6 seed. He won the 5,000 at the conference level as well.
