Cheridan Hawkins’ career at Oregon came to an end yesterday after four stellar seasons. By the end of Saturday it seemed the #5 Ducks would be headed to the World Series again. With #1 Florida being upset and knocked out and the Ducks up 1-0 on UCLA at home in the Super Regionals, the odds of Oregon winning the whole thing looked possible. Then, Sunday, just two outs away from a trip to Oklahoma City, UCLA came back to win the game 2-1, forcing another game which they also took 2-1. The Ducks outscored the Bruins 10-5 in the series, and Oregon won the regular-season Pac-12 title, but neither of those things mattered. UCLA is moving on, and the Ducks are done.
Over four years, Cheridan threw almost 800 innings, struck out over a thousand batters, compiled a 1.66 ERA, a won-loss record of 108-20, and earned 17 saves.

The rumors from the past few months have been confirmed. The former SOU quarterback and current coach of the Ducks will be speaking at Raider Stadium on the morning of June 13.
Of course if you want live football, AHS is the place to be today. However, after today’s SOU game you may want more. Or maybe you are a fan of the NFL and want to watch with a crowd instead of by yourself in your living room.
The #3 Ducks play #7 Michigan State after the Raiders’ game this afternoon. The obvious choices of places to watch the game in Ashland are Red Zone, Louie’s, Northwest Pizza, or Omars. However, if you have been to any or all of these places on game day you know that the crowds can be too big, and the service can become very slow.
A new option is Club 66. Uzi has five or six TVs going now, with up to three different DirecTV stations playing simultaneously, including a 10′ projection screen. He also has 6 beers on tap (and more in cans and bottles). But this next item may be the clincher for some of you. Pitchers of ANY beer (including Ninkasi’s Total Domination IPA and other micro draft beers) are just $10! That’s about the cost of two pints at the other places.
The Sunday breakfast deal is also a bargain.

@OregonSB @CheridanH11 The Ducks hosted three other teams trying to get through them to the 2014 College Softball World Series this weekend. The regionals are a double-elimination format. The #1 ranked Ducks didn’t even use their one allowed loss. Instead, they went 3-0 to set up next weekend’s best two out of three series with #16 Minnesota. The winner will be going to the NCAA Women’s College Softball World Series.
Cheridan Hawkins is 31-4 so far this season with 302 strikeouts in 217 innings of work. Wisconsin was ranked #25 before losing twice to Oregon.
Ryan and I in 2000
My little boy is all grown up now and will be heading off to college this fall. He has decided to go to the University of Oregon. I’ve been rather indifferent about the Oregon schools (other than SOU where I work of course) until now, but from here on out I will be a fan of the Ducks.

Unfortunately, the game the Ducks lost was the game when I was there. Ryan Riga tossed a complete game shutout with 10 Ks for the Buckeyes in the rain on Saturday evening when I took today’s photo. The Oregon Ducks were trying anything to get on base including many bunt attempts.
