The new volleyball rankings came out today, and they look pretty much like the old ones as no one changed position in the top 10. Next week they will likely change as 15-0 SOU heads out on an important road trip. Their first stop is at College of Idaho, always tough on the road. The next stop will be against #7 Eastern Oregon.

Winning games on the road, no matter how good you are, is never easy. However, the Raiders beat OIT this past Tuesday night in Klamath Falls after going down 2 games to 1. Full details here.

SOU’s Jared Hixon was selected as the Cross Country Runner of the Week. Ashlyn Flynn and Brendan Allen received honorable mention for volleyball (defensive) and men’s soccer (offensive).

The 11-0 Raiders return to Ashland for a couple of matches this weekend. The first is tonight against Multnomah at 7 p.m. Tomorrow night (9/19/15) they will be playing an early 5 p.m. match vs. Warner Pacific.

After 13 games on the road, the Ashland High School Grizzlies play their first home match tonight at 6:45 against Eagle Point.

The OSAA rankings don’t mean much yet (anything really at this point), but in late October they are very meaningful. Last year several of Ashland’s victories in tournaments weren’t included in the calculation of the OSAA rankings (although all of the losses were). This resulted in Ashland having a lower ranking and travelling over five hours to play on the home court of the eventual state champion instead of having a home game in the playoffs.
Currently, Ashland is ranked #5 in the young season and Marist is ranked #1. The goal for a home playoff game is to be ranked #8 or better come October 24.
Tonight’s game is at Marist Catholic High School in Eugene. The winner will take over first place in the 7-team Midwestern League.
