Unusual flowers in Asakusa

asakusa flower show exhibition contest chrysanthemum

I don’t think I have ever seen these three kinds of flowers before, or since, the day I spotted them in Asakusa (Tokyo). Anyone know what they are called?

    They are called “kiku” in Japanese or Chrysanthemums in English. They are the national flower of Japan.

    All three kinds are kiku (菊) or just the ones in the back left?

    Yes, all three are kiku (菊)but different types of kiku.

    The two types of chrysanthemum in the front are known as spider chrysanthemums. There are several names for this type of kiku; it depends on the number and thickness of the petals. Their images are very popular as designs for fabrics and paintings. I believe the yellow ones in the back left are known as globe chrysanthemum.
