Yakudoshi (厄年) @ Hie Jinja (日枝神社)
Hie Shrine in the middle of Tokyo is one of the stranger Shinto shrines in Japan in my opinion. For one, you can take an escalator to get to it. Another is the contrast between the shrine and the skyscrapers around it. (Notice the 38-story Prudential Tower in the upper left.)
Today’s photo features a curious bit of superstition, not uncommon at Japanese shrines and temples. The sign board in the lower right portion of the pic tells you whether this will be a bad year for you based on the year you were born. Males and females have different unlucky years according to this “yakudoshi.”
