Hair hat

Mickey Morabito – director of team travel (previously referred to as traveling secretary) for the Oakland A’s
I have always been rather fascinated by people who alter their appearance in ridiculously fake ways. It doesn’t matter if the alteration is to their boobs, face (cosmetic surgery or stage-level thickness of makeup for everyday use), or hair; I just can’t get over how unnatural and strange these alterations look.
I think this fascination may go back to my early teenage years and this man, Mickey Morabito. I would hang out with a bunch of friends at the Oakland Coliseum in the early 1980s, and we had loads of time to kill. We would do so, in part, by talking about what Mickey’s “hair” would look like when he showed up for work on that day.
Flash forward 30 years… I hadn’t followed the A’s that closely during the 90s and 00s–especially when it came to the executives. So when I saw Mickey poke his head out of the A’s dugout during the pregame warmups in Anaheim in 2012 I had to smile when I saw his strange taste in toupees (hairpieces, wigs, whatever you want to call them) hadn’t changed over the decades. You’d think that with a job for a baseball team, you’d opt for a more natural look, like a baseball cap, or just show off your bald head now that people like Bruce Willis, Michael Jordan, and Patrick Stewart have made the bald look rather popular. But, no, Mickey will be sporting a fancy hair hat until the end.

I’m so glad I found this blog. I saw Mickey at the Oakland Coliseum last month and couldn’t take my eyes off his hair. I had no idea who he was or what his role was with the franchise. Then I saw him on TV tonight and had to google him and found your blog.

Indeed, Annie. I saw him on TV tonight too. I’m sure everyone watching at home forgot all about newly acquired Jeff Samardzija the moment Mickey’s “hair” entered the scene.

Oh, my – there is a tremendous amount of truth to your statement. As I was watching, I soon was saying to myself, “Jeff Who???”, because I was so entranced by Mickey’s epic hair.

I don’t get him or Mark Davis. Very strange.
