Olve Eikemo (aka Abbath Doom Occulta) turns 39 today. I hope he has a headbanging good b-day.
I was a casual fan of Immortal before the Getaway Rock Festival. I had heard several of their songs on Pandora and had given them a thumbs up. However, I only vaguely knew what they looked like and who their members were before photographing them. So when I saw a band called Aura Noir earlier in the day, I thought it was strange that their bass player looked (sans the makeup) quite a bit like who I thought would playing bass for Immortal. As it turns out, he plays for both bands so my suspicion was correct.
The plan was to feature a (new) band a day, but I didn’t bring my computer on my trip to Norway with me (5 train transfers from Copenhagen to Oslo wasn’t going to make it very fun to have a big laptop on board so I opted for a Murakami book instead) so here is another photo of Immortal. I’ll have more Immortal from the Getaway Rock Festival at a later date as well. You haven’t seen the last of Abbath Doom Occulta’s lovely face. 😉
The above photo is one of my favorite ones of the entire festival. Immortal, for all of their Black Metal atmosphere, are really just a few fun guys who are excellent entertainers.
I have been a fan of Immortal for a while. It’s good to see them back in action after taking several years of the last decade off.
Apollyon played, without makeup, as part of Aura Noir on the day before. I’ll get you some photos from that performance at some point.
Today I’m off to Norway, home of Immortal. Tomorrow I will be in their hometown of Bergen. I’m going not to see any music but to experience some of Norway’s finer fjords.
