I’ve received lots of requests for photos over the past few days so, with just five days to go until the quarterfinals, here are five from last Saturday for you. Do you want four more tomorrow?
@SOURaiders @SOUWrestling @DevinPoppen
Devin Poppen has been named the Wrestler of the Week for the Cascade Conference. Poppen went 5-1 on the week, winning in SOU’s 27-18 dual victory at Eastern Oregon and placing 2nd on Sunday at the Spokane Open.
Note that at this point in the season there are no conference or national football “players of the week.”

The scenario I mentioned almost a couple months ago has come to pass. Massey has had the Raiders in the top four since September and now has SOU in the #3 spot. Unfortunately, the coaches’ poll determines playoff locations. The Mid-South Conference, with 5 votes in the coaches’ poll, has put two of their teams at home for the quarterfinals.
Southern Oregon becomes a slight underdog in this situation, instead of a huge favorite at home with a team like Northwestern coming to Ashland, due to the seedings being based on the coaches instead of impartial Massey. Massey says Lindsey Wilson will win 35-33. I think the Raiders will win 45-24.
The coaches’ top 4 teams all won at home (and the Raiders did too at #5) which means SOU will be heading somewhere next weekend. The destination will likely be Lindsey Wilson or Morningside (due to distance). The coaches didn’t predict as well as Massey did. The coaches #7 Langston got creamed by Northwestern, just as Massey said they would, so once again the coaches are wrong and Massey is proven correct. Why is that SOU is going to have to travel next week when Massey has them in the top four? Write your congressperson or express your outrage to the NAIA somehow.
