Pirates and Nuns at Ashland Halloween Parade

“Jesus Loves You But I’m His Favorite” reads the nun’s t-shirt. The posters in the background are for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) which just wrapped up its 2011 season last week.

Japanese maple in autumn

The Japanese Maple trees in our backyard are completely orange now. But for a day or two last week they were experiencing four colors at once (green, yellow, orange, and red).

Fox in Ashland

Unlike the deer (about 200 of which live in town), we don’t see fox every day in Ashland. Seeing them is one thing, but getting them to hold still long enough for a photo is another.

After defeating College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon University at home, the Southern Oregon volleyball team did it again to those same two teams on the road to win the Cascade Collegiate Conference championship tournament and move into the NAIA National Championships. They will be playing to win it all in Iowa later this month.

Ashland After Dark

Ashland, Oregon evening

Last night I took Ellie to her flute lesson across town. With Daylight Saving Time over and the Winter Solstice fast approaching, things were pretty dark by her 5:30 p.m. appointment.

The outdoor lighting on the property made these cool-looking patterns on the ground that I thought would make for a nice photo with Ashland lighting up in the background.

The bright lights in the distance on the left are from the Ashland High School football game which began a little over an hour later at 7. AHS came from behind to defeat Silverton and move to 8-2 on the season.

View from the grave

Mountain View Cemetery in autumn

If you were buried in Mountain View Cemetery, and you could look out the side of your coffin, this is the last glimpse you would take in as you were lowered into the ground during the first couple weeks of November. Or perhaps this would be the first thing you saw after becoming a zombie. Do zombies rise in the middle of a beautiful, fall day like today when I took this photo? Probably not.

SOU campus in the fall

Southern Oregon University in Autumn

College and university campuses just look “right” in the fall, when the leaves have changed colors and/or cover the ground. It’s too bad the landscape maintenance crew is so diligent in getting these natural works of art off the campus so quickly. Let us all walk through them for a week or two. Is that too much to ask?
