SOU #1 according to Massey

Apparently Massey was much more impressed with the Raiders victory over Carroll College yesterday than it was with the St. Francis win over St. Xavier. St. Francis fell from #1 to #3, and Southern Oregon achieved Massey’s #1 ranking for the first time since 2015. This is the first time ever that Massey has had the SOU defense at #1 in the NAIA. The coaches will still have the Raiders at #3 when their poll comes out tomorrow.
The only real chance St. Francis has of losing a game in the regular season comes Saturday when they face 3-0 Marian. Marian beat St. Xavier by 45 points (compared to the St. Francis victory of 8 points). Massey still gives St. Francis a 76% chance of winning against Marian.
The Raiders travel to Massey’s #8 Rocky Mountain next week.
Raiders take over sole possession of first place with shutout of Carroll College

SOU shutout the Saints today, their first shutout in 15 years. That 27-0 win, coupled with Eastern Oregon University’s win over Montana Western, puts 4-0 Southern Oregon into sole possession of first place in the Frontier Conference. Montana Western and Montana Tech share second place with 3-1 records.
The Raiders have a bye week next week followed by another away game in Montana on October 6. That game will be against Rocky Mountain, who barely got by College of Idaho today.

Football remains @ #3, endowment begins

New coaches’ poll came out today. SOU remained at #3. Montana Tech dropped just one spot to #24, Rocky Mountain dropped to #23, and Montana Western (who the Raiders don’t play until their final game) jumped to #22.
Some awesome parents of current student-athletes are spearheading a new endowment for the football program. Donations will not be paid out; rather, the endowment will grow and only the income from the endowment will be used for future expenses and growth of the SOU football program. You can donate here.

Southern Oregon University teams combined for a 7-0 record this weekend. But wait, there’s more. School hasn’t even started yet, and the Raiders are a combined, drum roll please, 14-0 in conference games. Wowza!
