Tra Forrest with the QB strip

As mentioned last week, the Raiders 0-3 start does not mean postseason hopes are over. Although SOU isn’t ranked in the coaches’ poll, Massey moved the Raiders up in their rankings to #16 after the narrow loss on the road to #4 College of Idaho. Massey gives the Raiders at least a 42% chance (individually, not in total) of winning their remaining regular season games despite the 0-3 start.

For today’s game, even though it’s at Montana Tech who beat Eastern Oregon easily on the road, Massey favors SOU by 1 point. A win will go a long way to righting the ship and propelling the Raiders onward and upward as they begin an easier portion of their schedule–the hardest schedule in the NAIA according to Massey.

A few things…

I’ve heard people talk about how the Raiders season is already over after losing their first couple games. Not true. The Sacramento State game means next to nothing–especially considering how well Sac State fared against Arizona State last weekend.

Southern Oregon has had problems with Eastern Oregon at home over the last several years. Last Saturday wasn’t an exception. SOU lost to EOU at home in 2014 too, and look how that season turned out for the Raiders.

Massey has the Raiders as 7-point underdogs at College of Idaho. However, if the Raiders win (and Massey gives Southern Oregon a 32% chance of doing so), they will possibly be in a tie for first place in the conference. Even if they lose, SOU still gets to face Eastern Oregon again (at a venue they have done very well at) and College of Idaho at home to make amends for the early losses.

In summary, the season is far from over–regardless of what happens today, and a win today can quickly move them back into pole position.

The Raiders open their Frontier Conference season in Ashland on Saturday at 1 against Eastern Oregon University. Massey has favored the Raiders to win by 10 points. (BTW, Massey gave the Raiders just a 4% chance of beating Sac State last weekend, where today’s photo was taken, but gives SOU a 75% chance of victory this week.)

With the twin tower senior wide receivers of Jason Shelley and Jordan Suell, the Raiders should just throw the ball 12 feet into the air on every play this season for best results.
