A throwback pic today from 2011, a year before the centennial celebration of what was originally called the Ashland Carnegie Library, but I imagine the scene wouldn’t look much different if I walked down Gresham Street and took the same photo today.

Grizzly Peak from inside the Ashland Library
I took today’s photo a few years ago. On a recent trip to the library I noticed an even larger number of homeless people spending their day inside, many sleeping in the more comfortable chairs. I previously lingered in the library (reading a book or magazine before heading home), but the b.o. is more than a little off putting these days.

I have taken quite a few photos of the Hannon Library on the SOU campus over the years, but somehow this is only the second one to make it on the blog. Grizzly Peak can be seen covered in snow in the distance of today’s photo. I took this picture a year ago, and Churchill Hall was undergoing renovations at the time.
