Mt. Hood from an airplane

On my way back to Ashland from Europe on Sunday the plane spent very little time over water. We went over Greenland, Canada, and didn’t enter U.S. airspace until the state of Washington. We came south from there to land in Portland. This was the view of Mt. Hood shortly before landing. I think the water you see in this photo is the Columbia River.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have a window seat on the flight from Portland to Medford.

View from the slopes of Grizzly Peak

This much snow left on Mt. Ashland in mid-June is possibly a first. The field at my feet when I took this photo was loaded with wildflowers. I wish I had gotten there about an hour earlier, though, as the sun was too bright (even though it was before 8 a.m.). I’ll have to try photographing from this location again at dusk.

You can see my location in this photo. I was, what appears to be, halfway up Grizzly Peak in that picture. In reality, I was no where near halfway up the mountain.

Snow-capped Nevada Mountain Scene

Stepping back in time a day or so from the last few entries, this photo is not a good example of how you can’t take good pictures from your car. I took this from the dashboard, while driving 75 MPH, through the windshield. I was bored and everyone else in the car was asleep.

I don’t think these are the Sierra Nevada Mountains (aren’t they only on the California border?). I think I was between Wells and Elko on I-80 heading west when I snapped this photo.

The photo, obviously, isn’t perfect given my speed and the window dirt, but with a little noise reduction in Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 the picture can be improved a bit as seen below.

View from Ashland Loop Road

Long before the Ashland Loop Road becomes deserted and looks like this, you can look back over your right shoulder for this view, one of your last glimpses of civilization.

The Buddha rests in the shadow of the grape vine

While it is quite common to see the Buddha resting on a lotus flower, he doesn’t seem to mind the shade of a vineyard either.

In the distance you can see the Ashland Springs Hotel (and my house–I can’t really see it as it isn’t nearly as prominent as the hotel, but it is in this picture).

Early Autumn Morning

This was the scene from my daughter’s flute lesson at 8:30 a.m. this morning. The sun was a little too bright already. An hour earlier and this shot would have been far more spectacular I think.

Today’s photo is another I took from my friend’s deck a couple weekend’s ago.

The Siskiyous

ashland oregon

I went to a party at a friend’s house last weekend. The rain stopped an hour or two before, and things were looking really pretty from his deck.

This is basically the reverse view of yesterday’s photo which showed the Cascades from the Siskiyous. This is the Siskiyou Mountain Range from the base of the Cascades.

I took today’s photo last week on White Rabbit Trail, less than half a mile from Park Street.

My kind of sky

I love it when the sky does this. This is the view from home. The mountains are known as the Western Cascades.
