SOU up to #2 in latest Massey Ratings

Sean Tow averaged over 7 yards a carry in Saturday’s win over the Yotes

Details about yesterday’s Raider win can be found here.

USF fell apart in the second half of yesterday’s game with Marian. That caused them to drop a couple of places in Massey Ratings. The NAIA coaches will likely do something similar, paving the way for Marian and Baker to receive home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Neither Marian or Baker have an even halfway decent opponent on their remaining schedules. SOU will still be #9 in Monday’s coaches poll. USF will likely drop to #5.

As mentioned previously, the Raiders can win out and still not crack the top four in the final NAIA rankings. That created a possible scenario where the Raiders would travel to #1 Marian for a quarterfinal or semifinal playoff game. However, if USF can pull off an upset today, Marian could drop a few spots in the rankings, and teams like USF and Baker can end the regular season undefeated in the #1 and #2 spots. Such a fate could cause another Marian vs. SOU championship in Daytona.

You can watch the end of the Marian vs USF game here.

Gameday!

Welcome to installment #28 in “The Whole Picture” in which I present the uncropped, higher-resolution version of photos that SOURaiders.com have published. For prior editions click here. For higher resolution click on the photo before saving. As always, photos are best viewed on a big screen rather than a tiny phone screen.

Some of you may have found your way here through the link on souraiders.com. I have had several people email me asking questions about buying prints or about finding all of my photos for a certain sport.

The photos I post here are a small fraction of the photos I actually have. If you would like to print any of the photos on Ashland Daily Photo, you are welcome to do so at no charge. Be sure to click on the photo to get to the higher resolution size which will print with more quality. If you want to use them on the web (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), you are welcome to do so if you link back to traveljapanblog.com/ashland in the description of the photo. If you are using the photo in a newspaper or magazine, please credit “Al Case, Ashland Daily Photo”.

If you would like me to search through all of my photos and send you photos of the particular athlete you are looking for I charge a reasonable fee for the time it takes me to find all of those photos and to process them for you. I do not normally sell prints. I email you the high quality electronic files in .jpg format, and you can do the printing and framing yourself through a local or online service. My email is on this page or you can comment (leave a reply) to a recent blog entry to communicate.

A new 2010 Men’s XC National Champions banner has gone up in Raider Stadium. The 2014 Football National Champions banner has been up for a few weeks. Both teams are in contention for 2016 national championships as well.

SOU’s soccer teams are on the road this weekend. They will return to playing in Ashland on October 7.

In one of the more boring and predictable polls in recent history, the NAIA football coaches left things largely unchanged from last week.

Once again, they stupidly dropped a team for losing to a higher-ranked team on the road. This time Morningside dropped from #2 to #6 for their defeat to perhaps the best NCAA DIII football program. Morningside didn’t deserve to be #2 anyway, but the voting coaches are still lame.

Don’t expect much movement next week either. #1 plays #2 with the probable loser (#2 Saint Francis) likely ending up as something like #5 since the coaches like to penalize teams for playing good teams.

Note that Jessa Perkinson received honorable mention for women’s golf. Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos of Jessa golfing. There are two reasons for this. The first is that Jessa isn’t on SOU’s golf team. The second is that SOU doesn’t have a golf team! 🙂
