Accounting grad Dylan Paulk ran the marathon in the NAIA Outdoor Championships in less than 2 hours and 50 minutes which is twice as fast as I could have done it on a bike if the course was all downhill

Grace Lenthe wins top honor
Grace Lenthe – 2015 Midwestern League softball player of the year
Both the Ashland High School baseball and softball teams had similar seasons with good starts and poor finishes. The softball team went 10-3 before finishing the season 4-10. They came in 5th place in the 7-team conference. All-conference selections are difficult to come by in a 7-team league, but Grace Lenthe did one better. She won player of the year, an amazing accomplishment for someone on a team looking up at four other teams in the standings. Grace hit over .500 with a slugging percentage over .800 for the year.

Alexa Gonzalez named NAIA Softball Scholar-Athlete

For a cumulative GPA over 3.5 with more than two years of college under her belt, Alexa Gonzalez earned the Scholar-Athlete designation the NAIA announced today.

Kelsey Randall and Brianne Craig made the all-conference team the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced today. Alexa Gonzalez received honorable mention. With a combined six more seasons of eligibility remaining between the three of them, the future looks bright for Raider softball. Kelsey and Brianne were also Gold Glove Award winners at their positions. Only one player from each position (in the 8-team conference) is awarded a gold glove.

Alexa Gonzalez’s three-run home run and go-ahead two-run single, propelling SOU to a 7-5 victory Friday over #15 Concordia, earned her another Player of the Week award. She had a monster year as a junior for the Raiders. The season isn’t over quite yet. Southern Oregon begins the playoffs as the underdog this weekend in Klamath Falls and will be looking for some more upsets.

Three wins in their final six games (all on the road) will lock up a playoff spot for the Raiders. (Three losses by the team trailing them will result in the same fate, but winning is better than hoping for someone else to lose.)
P.S. Willie Nelson is coming to Britt this summer.
Raiders win in walk-off fashion

Brianne Craig threw 178 pitches in game one against Corban this weekend, a game with as many “woulda, coulda, shouldas” as innings (10), but the Raiders came up short. Shutout for the first six innings, the Raiders won game two with a walk-off. Ontiveros led the way with two hits, a run, and SOU’s only RBI.
All in all, it was not a bad week for Southern Oregon softball. The Raiders split with the ranked teams and swept the unranked team. If they do as well or better for the rest of the season they will make the playoffs and possibly end up in the final rankings.
