Several days ago the sky looked rather bland as I got out of the shower. A minute later it looked like this so I took a quick photo. Within 30 seconds it looked like nothing special again.

I posted a smaller version of this on Facebook yesterday. Speaking of Facebook, the vast majority of those who “like” Ashland Daily Photo on Facebook never see the daily photo. I’m not sure exactly why, but there is a fix. To be sure you see the daily photo, mouse over the “Liked” button after you like the page and click on “Show in News Feed”. Then click on “Settings” and select “All Updates”.

As always, for an even larger version, click on the photo.

Cold sunrise over Ashland, Oregon

Like most of the West Coast of the USA over the past week, Ashland has been freezing–literally. Snow hasn’t fallen for about a week, but with lows in the teens every night since and highs around 30 degrees, not much has melted. Today we may finally hit 40 degrees, and we may even hit 50 at some point this weekend so there is hope that this state of affairs won’t last forever.

Before the dawn

Ashland has had a change in weather over the past few days. This is not so good for those of us who like the warmer temperatures, but it is great for photography with the crazy clouds, different lighting, and unpredictable colors that come with. I took today’s photo before the sunrise when the sky was going bonkers for a few minutes.

September morning

Today’s photo is of the most common view on this blog, out my window. It has been many months since I’ve taken a pic from this location. The view has been rather boring this summer with endless days of either blue or smoky skies. But yesterday the sunrise was rather nice with the smoke (from the Goff (aka Fort Complex) Fire that has been burning thousands of acres in the Applegate for over a month now) mostly gone and some interesting clouds.

I have trouble sleeping on vacation. I don’t know if it’s the different bed or what, but my vacation insomnia allows me to get photos like this when I’m travelling as I’m usually up and about before dawn. I only had my wide angle lens with me at the time, which is a bit of a shame as a close up of the fog in the distant trees with this kind of lighting may have been pretty cool if I had a lens with more reach.
