Rainbow over Ashland

We’ve been having some great skies the past few days. I love February’s annual false spring.

I always process my .jpg image file separately from my RAW image of the same scene. Usually I delete the version I don’t like as much. With this photo, I couldn’t decide. Which do you like better?

No more monkey tree :(

As I mentioned a couple weeks back, there was a good chance Ashland’s monkey tree would be no more once the people moved out. They moved at the end of January, and the monkeys are now gone. Oh well, I still have a few photos from what was.

Monkey Tree on B Street

We have a few Monkey Puzzle Trees in Ashland. We also have one, plain-ol’ Monkey Tree, pictured above.

I’ve been watching the number of monkeys in this tree grow over the past year, but I’ve never had my camera with me. Since the number of stuffed monkeys continued to increase, I figured this wasn’t a temporary situation, and I was going to wait until the leaves came on the tree this spring for photos. However, in the local paper a few days ago this story was published so I figured I had to grab some pics now or I may never have the chance.

This tree reminds me of the pacifier tree near Copenhagen, Denmark in Frederiksberg Have. Are there any trees bearing unusual fruit where you live?

Another pic of one of my favorite trees

I have shown you this tree at least twice now, but it looks different every time I go for a walk on Ridge Road.

Ashland's Lithia Park in the snow

We finally have a bit of precipitation going on this week. Today’s photo is from my Sunday morning walk through Lithia Park while it was snowing a couple days ago.

Ashland, Oregon just after sunset

Today’s photo is one of the first I took with a new lens–the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX Autofocus Lens for Nikon. I tried to stitch (photomerge) three images together to get about 200 degrees worth of Ashland, but Photoshop was not willing. Perhaps I’ll try to do it manually in Photoshop.

Mt. Ashland is to the left of center. Wagner Butte is to the right of center. Ashland High School had something going on at the football field so the lights were on and that caused the brightness to the left of center. The brightness near the far right is the Ashland Springs Hotel. The lines in the lower-left half on the bottom are the cars going up and down I-5.

I took this about 15 minutes after sunset on my D7000 at f/4 for 30 seconds at ISO 100. I cropped the bottom and top off the 11mm picture to give it more of a panorama feel.
