Anne Frank House - 263 Prinsengracht

“Friday, July 10, 1942

After we arrived at 263 Prinsengracht, Miep quickly led us through the long hallway and up the wooden staircase to the next floor and into the Annex.”

The Anne Frank House is now a museum. In it you will find not only the rooms she describes in such detail (pretty much as they were when Anne lived there in the early 1940s), but also pages from her original diary and the clippings she herself decorated the walls with (now covered in protective glass).

Westerkerk (Anne Frank week)

Westerkerk

Westerkerk - Amsterdam - Netherlands

For the next week I’ll have photos dealing in some way with Anne Frank. I visited the Anne Frank House (Achterhuis) in Amsterdam just over a month ago. I’m currently reading her diary.

Today’s photo is of Westerkerk, the church a stone’s throw from her house. The tower on this church is the highest in all of Amsterdam. They only allow six people up the tower each hour. Since I was by myself, (and most people wanting to go up were in groups or couples) I was able to go up when only five people were booked. I’ll show you some photos from the top at some point.

Westerkerk is mentioned in Anne’s diary (see quote below for one instance), as the bells could be easily heard from her home. Also, the church tower was one of the few things visible from the attic window in the “Secret Annex.”

The famous Dutch artist, Rembrandt van Rijn, was buried in Westerkerk on October 8, 1669.

The canal in the foreground is Prinsengracht (Prince’s Canal).

“Saturday, July 11, 1942

Father, Mother and Margot still can’t get used to the chiming of the Westertoren clock, which tells us the time every quarter of an hour. Not me, I liked it from the start; it sounds so reassuring, especially at night.”

I have a ton of Kreator photos that I like, but I will spare those of you who couldn’t care less and return to another topic tomorrow.

Kreator Mosh Pit

Notice the guy who was in the process of losing his pants in Kreator’s mosh pit at the Getaway Rock Festival. Everyone was having a good time, but some seem to be taking that fun to another level. 😉

I actually have a photo of him completely naked on the next lap around the pit, but you don’t want to see that one.

Kreator at Getaway Rock Festival 2011 - photo by Daniel Falk - framednoise.com

I was browsing through some photos of the Getaway Rock Festival on Facebook when I came across the one above. That is me in the bottom left corner. I had on my Oakland A’s hat backwards while working the photo pit for Kreator. What was I seeing at the moment the above photo was taken? See the photo below for the answer.

If you ever go to Holmenkollbakken (Oslo’s famous ski jump), be sure to wander around the neighborhood as well. You don’t want to miss Holmenkollen Park Hotel Rica (photos coming soon) or the views from there (shown above).
